Anyone around for the beginnings of Elysia will remember how quickly they went from obscurity, to everyone’s favorite band in the blink of an eye. The demos put them on the map, but “Masochist” showcased the full throttle powerhouse that Elysia truly was. Witnessing their rise was an absolute treat, and I haven’t seen anything quite like it since then.

“Masochist” was one of those albums that stood out right from the start. It’s a unique blend of death metal and hardcore that just meshed so flawlessly. Zak Vargas’ lyrics and vocals were the cherry on top of a record that already had mind blowing break downs and 2-steps. The fact that this album was written by 17 year olds is just a complete mind fuck. The whole record is nothing but raw energy.
